EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES

Design Approach to Educational Facilities
Our practice and clientele have varied, from established arts and educational institutions to commercial developments and office interiors for not-for-profit organizations. In all of our work, the focus has been on maintaining or restoring the architectural integrity of an existing building or surrounding context while designing facilities for updated and new program uses. In the design of school classrooms our emphasis has been on maintaining or restoring the significant architectural elements of a building while introducing compatible new furnishings and fixtures.
By providing a neutral backdrop for the classrooms, the students’ work provides the visual interest, rather than using strong colors and graphics which compete with the student work.
Educational facilities projects have included:
-
Renovation of library, classrooms, offices and gymnasium at the Ethical Culture School
-
Façade restorations and slate roof repairs, renovation of classrooms, labs, library, auditorium, playgrounds and athletic facilities at the Fieldston School
-
New rooftop play area, renovations of music room, computer labs, art room, offices and new mechanical room for Friends Seminary in NYC historic district
-
Renovation and expansion of the program to an additional floor at Beginnings Nursery School
Our designs have been featured in Architectural Record, articles in The New York Times, the AIA Guide to NYC and New York 2000.
